Apart from their obvious function as providers of ventilation in a house, openings to the world, and many other internal functions for a house, windows also have a function for the outside. They leave a lot to the imagination of the passer-by, especially when they are closed or halp-open. Sometimes they become chaming parts of a house, or even the highlight of an entire building. In Curacao, this is no different.
Houses are all small, the walls painted in even, often in pastel shades. The crown on many houses is their windows. They attract your attention because they stand out in the plainly painted walls, stick out because of their simplicity and functionality, and give elegance to the most humble houses. They try to seduce you, and they often succeed.
In all the elegant houses I saw, the windows always drew my attention. Their beauty was easy to admire, all the more so because of the modest size of Curacao houses. And still, the riddle of what's behind those windows. continues. I never saw an open window. Which added even more curiosity to those picturesque gems.
