After my visit to the ruins of Trinidad, I decided to also visit those at Jesús. It didn't take a very long time to return to the road where the bus had dropped me off in the morning, and then I decided to walk all the way to the ruins, 12 kilometres. The weather was still nice, the surroundings looked very inviting with green rolling hills and rivers, trees and open meadows where cows had their vegetarian lunch.
Indeed, I did not regret the walk. Once again I experienced the kindness of the Paraguayan people. I was greeted everywhere, and several cars and motorcycles stopped to offer me a ride, offers which in some cases I had real trouble to decline. While walking up, the sky continued to cloud, the humidity didn't stop building up, and at a distance the colour of the sky looked increasingly black.
Jesús turned out to be a lively village. Its mission impressed me as much as the one at Trinidad had done, even though it was smaller. Its history is diverse since the construction of this mission was never actually finished; the Jesuits had already been forced to stop their activities before they could finish building the mission. For me, it didn't make the place less idyllic. During my way back to Encarnación, rain started to fall which eventually would turn into a major downpour.
