Tucked away in the Mid West of the US, Minneapolis is a rather quiet city "in the middle of nowhere". At the same time, it has more on offer than one would perhaps expect. My first excursion was to walk from the downtown area to the Sculpture Garden. This is an outdoor venue, where various works of art are on display. Especially nice on a summer day, when you can just lay down at one of the pieces of art and enjoy the sunrays, the art, and the view.
Upon returning to downtown Minneapolis, I noticed the skywalks again, and remembered how cold it can get in this corner of the US in winter. For this reason, passages have been constructed which allow people to walk from building to building without ever having to get outside. Shopping mall, hotel, restaurant, bulding block: everything is connected! Without doubt an intelligent way to make life bearable in the freezing cold of winter. Apart from the architectural attractions in the city, it also boasts trendy restaurants and bars.
Another attraction in my view is the vicinity of nature. Walking distance from the city are several small lakes which allow for nice jogging, strolling, canoeing, or just laying in the sun. The lucky ones have their homes here and must have wonderful views of the lakes and their little islands. After this area, it is all pure nature in whichever direction you go. Unfortunately, I was not in the position to dive into that and had to head back to the city.
