When I first visited Spain on Interrail, I felt so attracted to the country, the atmosphere, the people, the language and the climate that it conquered a special place in my heart. Ultimately, this resulted in going to Spain to study the language and dedicating my final thesis to the country. Of all the places in Spain, I picked Barcelona to show you.
Barcelona for me is a city of style, of beautiful houses, the Gothic quarter, Gaudi and his unfinished cathedral. It is also a pleasant city, because it is situated directly on the sea. And of course because of its Mediterranean character. Barcelona also is Parc Güell, another Gaudi creation. For once, I present pictures with one common theme here, because to me, the city is to a considerable extent defined by Gaudi and would definitely be different without his influence.
Also, I like the fairy-tale like buildings, ornaments, details, windows, roofs... Just imagine being the architect, walking around your own city and seeing your works of art everywhere, always! By the way, I stayed in Barcelona for some time when I was researching for my thesis, because the subject was nationalism. Some would say that Catalonia should be a separate entry in this site, but suffice it to say that it has reached a special position inside the Spanish state.
